Adjusting Sensor Sensitivity
Adjusting Sensor Sensitivity
Overview
Sensor sensitivity controls how strongly each contactless sensor responds to liquid inside the tank.
Correct sensitivity settings are essential for accurate and stable tank readings.
Sensitivity should be adjusted only after sensors are properly mounted.
When You Need This
- After installing sensors for the first time
- If a sensor does not trigger when liquid reaches it
- If readings appear delayed or inconsistent
Before Adjusting Sensitivity
Before making any changes, confirm the following:
- Sensors are firmly mounted with no air gaps
- Tank surface is clean and flat
- Sensor cables are securely connected
Important: Increasing sensitivity will not fix poor mounting or loose sensors.
Understanding Sensitivity Levels
Each sensor has an adjustable sensitivity level that determines how much signal is required
to detect liquid through the tank wall.
- Higher sensitivity = stronger response
- Lower sensitivity = reduced response
Most installations work correctly with default sensitivity settings.
How to Adjust Sensitivity in the App
- Open the TankMaster app
- Connect to your TankMaster via Bluetooth
- Go to Tank Settings
- Select the sensor to adjust (S1–S4)
- Increase or decrease the sensitivity gradually
Recommended Adjustment Process
- Start with the default sensitivity
- Change sensitivity in small steps
- Allow the tank reading to stabilize
- Observe behavior during normal tank use
Avoid making multiple large changes at once.
Common Symptoms & What They Mean
Sensor Never Triggers
- Sensitivity may be too low
- Tank wall may be thicker than expected
Sensor Triggers Too Early
- Sensitivity may be too high
- Sensor may be near a reinforcement or baffle
Readings Jump or Skip Levels
- Sensor is not fully adhered
- Air gap between sensor and tank
- Sensitivity set too high
Special Notes for Black Tanks
- Black tanks often have thicker walls
- They may require slightly higher sensitivity
- Avoid extreme sensitivity increases
What Not to Do
- Do not max out sensitivity immediately
- Do not adjust sensitivity to compensate for loose sensors
- Do not change multiple sensors at once
Tips for Best Results
- Adjust one sensor at a time
- Test during actual tank filling or draining
- Give readings time to settle before adjusting again
If Problems Persist
If readings remain inaccurate after adjusting sensitivity:
- Recheck sensor mounting
- Clean and remount the affected sensor
- Return sensitivity to default and start over
