Best Double-Sided Tape for Tank Sensors

Overview

Proper adhesive is critical for reliable TankMaster sensor performance.
A weak or incorrect tape can allow sensors to loosen, shift, or develop air gaps,
leading to unstable or jumping tank readings.

Using the correct tape ensures sensors remain firmly bonded to the tank wall over time.

When You Need This

• A sensor has fallen off or loosened
• You are reinstalling or repositioning a sensor
• Readings jump or skip levels
• Original adhesive no longer sticks

Why Adhesive Quality Matters

TankMaster sensors must sit flush against the tank wall.
Even a small air gap can cause incorrect or unstable readings.

Low-quality tape can:

• Peel away over time
• Fail in heat or humidity
• Allow sensors to shift while driving

3M Automotive Molding Tape

• Designed for exterior automotive use
• Good resistance to moisture and temperature changes

High-Bond Foam Mounting Tape

• Must be rated for automotive or outdoor use
• Avoid low-density household foam tape

Preparing for Remounting

1. Remove the sensor completely
2. Remove all old adhesive residue
3. Clean the tank surface with isopropyl alcohol
4. Allow the surface to dry fully

Do not apply new tape over old adhesive.

Applying the Tape

1. Apply tape evenly to the back of the sensor
2. Ensure full coverage of the sensor face
3. Press the sensor firmly against the tank
4. Hold pressure for 20–30 seconds
