TankMaster Wi-Fi
Overview
TankMaster can communicate with your phone in two ways: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
When you open the TankMaster app, it will always try to connect using Bluetooth first because it is fast, simple, and requires no setup. If Bluetooth is unavailable or the signal is weak (for example, when you are farther away), the app will automatically switch to Wi-Fi once TankMaster is connected to your local network.
Connecting TankMaster to Wi-Fi allows you to check tank levels from anywhere within your RV, boat, or home—as long as your phone is on the same network.
Local-Only Operation (No Internet Required)
TankMaster is designed to operate 100% locally:
•No internet connection required
•No cloud account or external servers
•Fully functional in remote locations
This design provides:
•Reliability in low or no connectivity environments
•Improved security and privacy
Because of this:
•TankMaster is not accessible from the internet by default
•It uses a private IP address assigned by your router
•Your network’s firewall keeps the device protected
Remote access is only possible if you manually configure:
•Port forwarding, or
•A VPN connection to your local network, or
•Use a HomeAssistant gateway and connect the TankMaster
Configuring Wi-Fi
To connect the TankMaster to the WiFi network you can do it one of 3 ways
- Setup Wizard (Recommended) –
- Tap on the gear icon
- Select Run Setup Wizard
- Follow on-screen instructions

2. WiFi Provisioning
- Tap the gear icon
- Select WiFi Provisioning
- Enter your SSID (network name) and password for the network.

3. WiFi Setup via the Tank Configuration –
- Tap on the tank,
- in the Connectivity box tap WiFi
- Select your network from Available Networks

On the main screen, you’ll see Bluetooth and Wi-Fi icons.

These indicators show how your phone is currently communicating with TankMaster—not whether Wi-Fi is configured.
•Bluetooth On → Connected directly via Bluetooth
•Wi-Fi On → Communicating over your local network
•Either may be active depending on signal strength
Once TankMaster is connected to Wi-Fi, it will stay connected in the background. The green LED on the TankMaster will stop flashing and be a solid green.

Viewing Wi-Fi Details
To view actual Wi-Fi status:
1.Tap on your tank
2.In the Connectivity section, tap Wi-Fi
You will see:
•Wi-Fi Enabled – Whether Wi-Fi is active
•IP Address – Assigned by your router (usually private)
•SSID – The network TankMaster is connected to
•Hostname – Device name on your network
•Signal Strength – Wi-Fi quality
Understanding Signal Strength (dBm)
Wi-Fi signal strength is measured in dBm:
•–40 to –60 dBm → Excellent
•–60 to –70 dBm → Good / very usable
•–70 to –80 dBm → Weak but usable
•Below –80 dBm → Very weak, may disconnect
If signal strength is low:
•Move your router closer
•Reposition the TankMaster
•Reduce obstructions (metal, tanks, walls)
Troubleshooting Wi-Fi
If TankMaster is not connecting over Wi-Fi, check the following:
1. Confirm Network Connection
•. Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as TankMaster
2. Verify Wi-Fi Status in the App
On the Wi-Fi Setup / Configuration screen, confirm:
•Wi-Fi Enabled = Yes
•IP Address is present
•Signal Strength is better than –80 dBm
3. Check TankMaster LED Status
- Solid Green LED → Connected to Wi-Fi
- Flashing Green LED → Not connected to Wi-Fi
4. Test Direct Connection
Open a web browser on your phone or tablet and enter:
http://<IP address>
Replace <IP address> with the address shown in the TankMaster app.
If the page loads, TankMaster is connected and functioning correctly on your network.
5. Check Available Networks
If the Available Networks list is empty or your network does not appear:
- Move the TankMaster closer to your Wi-Fi router
- Ensure your router has a 2.4 GHz network enabled
TankMaster only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and will not connect to 5 GHz networks

Summary
•Bluetooth is used by default for simplicity
•Wi-Fi extends your usable range
•No internet is required—everything runs locally
•Status indicators show connection type, not setup status
•Strong Wi-Fi signal ensures reliable performance
